Thursday..........Thoughts

Quote of the day........

"There's no starvation in Uganda. If you get hungry, you can go into the forest and pick a banana."
- Idi Amin Dada, after seizing power in Uganda, 1971.

Remember Idi? Another one of his quotes (in jest)......was from a Richard Pryor skit, "I like white man....just had one for dinner."

What idiot.....would mess with Iron Mike?

From TMZ,com:

- Mike was initially in a good mood but turned sour when the pap asked about his wife
- Tyson became more agitated when he couldn't find a bathroom and saw the photog shooting him

Hump Day News & Views

From NBC Sports...........

Such a sad story:

Mike Tyson's Daughter Dies After Treadmill Accident

The 4-year-old daughter of boxing champion Mike Tyson has died after her neck apparently got caught in a cord dangling from a treadmill at their home. Tyson was in Las Vegas at the time of the accident, but immediately returned home to Phoenix when his young daughter was hospitalized.

Exodus' 7-year-old brother found her and told their mother, who was in another room. She took Exodus off the cord, called 911 and tried to revive her.

With everything that has happened to Mr. Tyson in his life..........this may be the toughest ever to deal with. The loss of a child..........so young.

We send our condolences to the entire Tyson family......

What ..........a tragedy.

We sure didn't see this one coming.......but we should have.....

The Orlando Magic beat the Cleveland Cavaliers last night, 116-114, in overtim
e to take that proverbial "commanding" 3-1 lead in the best of 7 NBA Eastern Conference Finals.

How did we get here? Cleveland boasted the best record in league..........66-16. Then these Cav's destroyed Detroit and Atlanta........in 4-0.......and 4-0. They have the reigning MVP in LeBron James.......They play defense.......They play with high energy.

So...........how can the Magic .......be so close to winning this series?

Let's take ........a closer look.....at both teams. Cleveland has one bona fide superstar, Mr. James. (Following Game 4, James, averaging 42.3 points, 7.3 rebound and 7.3 assists)

Orlando? They have the games' best center (offensively and defensively) in Dwight Howard. They also have a budding superstar in Rashard Lewis( a 6' 10" swing man), a wily veteran in Hedo Turkoglu ( a 6' 10" European) who can play guard or forward, and ..........a veteran point guard in Rafer Alston........who is simply out playing all-star wanna be , Mo Williams.........and support.......off the bench.

The Magic is much more balanced.......and have more talent. It was there.....always there....We just listened a bit too much to those "sports talking geeks" who already had the finals of the NBA played out....with Kobe versus LeBron.

It could still happen..........but we don't think so.

Other "stuff".......we're keeping an eye..........and an ear on.......

GM says bondholder offer fails; bankruptcy likely
............So what happened to all that bail-out money? I told you so.....We should have let them fail back in December of '08.......This was so.......inevitable.

Obama picks Sotomayor for Supreme Court

Rush Limbaugh already wants her to fail........nothing new there....... So we know.....she will succeed.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh......only in America.

Gotta love it....

Have a great "Hump Day"!

Hump Day News & Views

Now that's a cool president........

The big secret is out. Time magazine has chosen Barack Obama as its "person of the year". There are some amazing photographs of the president-elect in the newest on-line edition of the magazine including some very funny college pictures. See them all here: See pictures of Obama's college years.

Almost home.....but not quite......

We mentioned in yesterday's edition of the pending deal of Rafael Furcal coming back to the Atlanta Braves. Well.......not so fast! Seems the L A Dodgers are sweetening the pot in a last ditch effort to retain the services of their shortstop. Fucal is reported to be considering their counter-offer. Stay tuned.

The Arena Football League to take a year off..........

Yes ..........the Arena Football League is suspending play. There will not be a 2009 season as the financially stripped league reassesses itself. I personally was never a fan of the AFL, but I hate to see so many players not get an opportunity to play........even if it was on a smaller platform than the NFL.

A-town versus Bean-town........

Tonight at Philips Arena in the ATL.......The Atlanta Hawks host the Boston Celtics in prime-time on ESPN...........The Celts have the best record in the league at 23-2 and are riding a 15 game winning streak. The Hawks (15-9) have won 3 in a row. A great early season showdown.

Happy Trails.......Reggie Bush.....

New Orleans Saints running back, Reggie Bush will miss the remainder of the season . Bush sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during the Saints’ loss at C
hicago last Thursday night. The knee was examined over the weekend and coach Sean Payton said at practice on Wednesday that the team decided to put Bush on injured reserve. Will this guy ever make through an entire NFL season? Ever?

The " Brothers Manning".......

For the first time in history two brothers have been selected to the NFL pro bowl. Eli of the N Y Giants and Peyton of the Indianapolis Colts will be in Hawaii for the NFL showcase of its all-stars. Did we mention their dad (Archie) was also a pretty good QB back in the day?

Hey hey hey, it's Mike Tyson............

Mike is giving a whole new meaning to "Heavy Weight".......
The man once regarded as the baddest man on the planet shocked fight fans this past weekend, when a rather rotund Tyson fronted up to present an award at the sixth annual Video Game Awards in Culver City, California. The once-fabulously-chiseled physique of the former heavyweight champion of the world is now more flabulous than fabulous, with the once-feared pugilist now looking more like cartoon character Fat Albert.

Things........I'm thinking about.......

I am convinced
there are only five Christmas songs........they just get recycled and replayed by hundreds of artists.

70 degrees in this southern college town today.........that ain't right! It's December!

Why is there still no cure ...........for the common cold?

'Tis the season.....for all those "lists".......You know them .......they're coming.....but....I can wait.........Top stories of the year..........Best dressed.....Worst dressed........Best stories.......Best movies..........Top 10 plays of the year........and on .......and on ........and on.......

Have a great "Hump Day"
