Tarkenton critical of Favre signing

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Former NFL great Fran Tarkenton says the Brett Favre signing with the Minnesota Vikings was "an absolute circus."
"I really have no interest in what Brett Favre does," Tarkenton, a Hall of Famer, said Wednesday on "The Opening Drive" on Sirius NFL Radio. "(But) It's an absolute circus, and it takes away from all the other things that are going on with the Vikings, with the NFL."

We feel the same way Fran does........enough is enough...........

Police: Beer thief didn't get far

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said they arrested a homeless man accused of stealing several bottles of beer and a cooler from a yacht club bar.

Daytona Beach police spokesman Jimmie Flynt said Scott Riley, 28, allegedly broke into the Halifax River Yacht Club's Tiki Bar Sunday night and took the beer and cooler to a shrub across the street from the club, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported Wednesday.

Flynt said police found Riley passed out in the shrub next to the bottles and cooler, which was labeled "Halifax River Yacht Club."

Riley was arrested charged with burglary. He was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail. Flynt said investigators believe Riley may be linked to another nearby burglary.

Police: Man attacked family over UNO game

OREM, Utah, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Police in Utah said a man arrested for attacking his nephew and his wife was upset by a game of UNO.

Orem police said the 58-year-old man was in his home drinking and playing the card game with his 47-year-old nephew and the nephew's 64-year-old wife at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday when he allegedly became agitated and smacked the woman on the back of her head, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Tuesday.

Lt. Gary Downey said the nephew and his wife gathered their belongings to leave, but the man grabbed his nephew's arm and punched him. He said the pair fought until the man threatened the couple with a knife and ordered them to leave.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and three outstanding warrants for aggravated assault, simple assault and driving under the influence.

It's..............Alive!!!!!!!!!!

The "it"........is ....Brett Favre.......that "thing" that just won't die.

That house guest who just won't go home........that girlfriend who keeps hanging on.....that stray dog that keeps hanging around your front porch..........that re-occurring dream.......over and over and over..........again.

Retired..........un-retired..........retired again....then un-retired.

Today, Brett Favre........un-retired..........for 12 million..........reasons. Yes , the Minnesota Vikings will pay him a guaranteed amount of $12 million........for one year of service.

And our boy Michael Vick is only getting $1.6 million this year??? Michael.........you got ....had!!! But you do have a certain amount of ....."baggage".

Still........Brett Favre........played us all. In one interview, he says. "I'm done..........through".....In other interviews , he leaves the door open.

I don't think that Brett..........knows what he really wants.

But here it is........after the Vikings ......."closed the door" on the Brett Favre dealings.......only to come full circle back....to Mr. Favre.

This will never end.

Prediction........Favre will be the first ever..........60 year old quarter-back in the NFL.

Playoffs????? Playoffs??????

With all due respect to Tom Landry (right) and America's Team .......the Dallas Cowboys....neither will be around for the 2008-09 NFL play-offs.

The NFL concluded its regular season in style Sunday.........The Atlanta Falcons are in.....the Dallas Cowboys are not. The Miami Dolphins are in.......the New England Patriots are not.

AFC division winners are San Diego (8-8 , with their win over Denver), Tennessee, Pittsburgh, and Miami. Wild cards are Indianapolis and Baltimore.

NFC division winners are the N Y Giants, Arizona, Minnesota, and Carolina with wild cards Atlanta and Philadelphia.

A 44-6 beat down.....

That loud noise you heard late Sunday afternoon was the moans and groans coming out of every Dallas Cowboy fan from coast to coast. This thing got down right ugly......and it was so much fun to watch.

Now can we be .....done with Brett Favre?

Favre.......once again showed his true colors when it matter the most. The N Y Jets sold their souls to the devil and Favre........unceremoniously dump quarterback Chad Pennington........only to have Favre.......under perform.......and get beaten out of a play-off spot by none other than Chad and the Miami Dolphins........I loved it.

Black Monday in the NFL.....

Three coaches fired.......... NFL axe falls on Lions, Jets, Browns coaches

Rod Marinelli (He of the 0-16 Detroit Lions), Romeo Crennel (Cleveland) and Eric Mangini (N Y Jets) ............all fired yesterday. The NFL is brutal.......win .......win.....or find another job.


One good thing..........a black head coach ( Crennel) was among the ones fired..........and nobody is upset. This is great......Why?


It means that in the NFL, coaches are hired and fired on their abilities to coach..........period....not by the color of their skins..........and that....is a good thing.

A few thoughts......and a little news.



19-17.....And this was a Major League Baseball game....

Last night the Boston Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers 19-17, after blowing a major league record 10 run lead.

Talk about your wild games........The evening featured a combined 36 runs, 37 hits, 4 errors and a total of 11 pitchers used.

This Michael Phelps dude is really good.....

At 6' 4", he is an imposing figure.....with a wing span of 6' 7".......He has already won 11 gold medals in his career.

Things I think I think..........on a Wednesday....

I always thought John Edwards was a phony........now.....I'm sure of it.

I think Brett Favre will have a tough time in New York .....this season.

I think I'm about to jump on the Chicago Cubs bandwagon.......They are the best team in baseball.........or at least in the National League.

I think it's a good thing the Olympics come only every 4 years........I could not survive all the hype.

The great Beijing conspiracy.....

It's been almost 10 days since the story first broke........We were one of the few who dared to post it.....

You remember........the Chinese government forcing local establishments ......not to allow blacks in bars.....during the 2008 Olympics.

Well........there has still been nothing from the major media outlets. MSNBC's web site had a message board.....

MSNBC - Race & Ethnicity message board - Blacks banned from bars ...

But........that's about the extent of the coverage. Go figure........


Mr Favre........just won't go away.....

Brett Favre is coming back. Favre faxed his re-instatement papers to the league office while Green Bay Packer brass flew down to Mississippi to talk him out of attending Packer training camp.

What a mess...........It's obvious, the Pack........does not want Favre.....but they also don't want him to play for another team.....

Note to Green Bay: "You can't have it both ways.....either accept him back on your team.....or give him the release he asked for a month ago".

Egos.......egos.....


The NBA is making........off season news?

Say it ain't so..........but this is good.....No, nobody got shot..........or arrested.......just a major trade.

The Sacramento Kings have traded our favorite bad boy, Ron Artest, to the Houston Rockets......Yes, that Ron Artest........That Ron Artest, who incited that famous Detroit brawl.....That Ron Artest, who leads the league in technical fouls every year.......

But........the boy has game.....and ........teaming with Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady........makes the Rockets a contender in the NBA western conference.

Yes ............there is baggage here........but ........the guy can play.


My wedding ..........is this weekend......

Well, it's not exactly ...my wedding.

My daughter is marrying the man she has chosen.......to accompany her through the rest of her life......

My small role is simply to answer the question of , "Who gives this woman away"..........

I think I can handle that........My hope is .....for her eternal happiness. She deserves nothing less.


Finally............

Gardening........is ..........very humiliating.......

Last summer, I bragged........maybe even on this blog......(I just can't remember)....about being a ....."master gardener".

Well.........let me tell you.....This year........nothing.

The corn I planted grew to about 2 feet.......and quit. The Okra never even came up. The green beans were a miniature version (as were the collards and tomatoes)..........The squash decided to bloom, but bear no veggies........

Between the drought..........and the oak trees.......and that fig tree.......and that plum tree.......all those roots.......and lack of water.......

I.....have failed this year.
